La libertà di parola/In memoria di Giulio Regeni

Nel gennaio 2017 sono stato invitato al Cairo a Giza in Egitto nei pressi delle piramidi ad un work shop di scultori per realizzare una scultura per il parco delle sculture. Mi sembrava doveroso approfittare di questa occasione per realizzare una scultura che rendesse memoria al nostro connazionale Giulio Regeni barbaramente ucciso e dove ancora non si sono scoperti i mandanti e gli esecutori dell’omicidio.
Ecco come nasce questa scultura in marmo giallo d’Egitto e acciaio dal titolo “La libertà di parola”, una bocca chiusa da sbarre di ferro ma che non possono fermare le idee.

In January 2017 I was invited to Cairo in Giza, Egypt, near the pyramids at a sculptors’ workshop to create a sculpture for the sculpture park. It seemed right to take advantage of this opportunity to create a sculpture that would make memory of our compatriot Giulio Regeni brutally killed and where the instigators and perpetrators of the murder have not yet been discovered.
This is how this sculpture in yellow marble of Egypt and steel is born, entitled “Freedom of speech”, a mouth closed by iron bars but which can not stop ideas.
